Town of New Windsor Press Releases

05
New Windsor, NY – The Town of New Windsor and the Town of New Windsor Police Department along with the Washingtonville Central School District today announced a historic school safety partnership.

With the first day of school for students being tomorrow, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 the Town of New Windsor and Washingtonville Central School District have entered into an agreement to place a full time armed town police officer at Little Britain Elementary School.

This experienced officer has significant credentials for this critical posting that include active shooter training along with First Aid, CPR, AED and NARCAN certifications. The assigned officer also has special training to assist children having completed the basic police juvenile officer course and the crimes against children seminar.

Every day that school is open during the academic year and occupied by students and staff the experienced armed officer will be physically present. No school day will go by where the school is not protected with our armed officer and the full resources of the New Windsor Police Department.

Supervisor George Green stated, “New Windsor is proud to provide second to none police protection to Little Britain Elementary School. When Washingtonville School District reached out to us, our police department was more than ready to step up and ensure all students and school staff can learn and teach in a safe environment. My Chief of Staff Colin Schmitt, our Chief of Police Rob Doss and Superintendent Roy Reese have worked tirelessly on this critical agreement with me and I am glad to see it put into action. ”

Chief of Staff Colin Schmitt stated, “Protecting our schools and ensuring students and staff are safe each and every day during the school year is of top priority for us. We are honored to partner with Washingtonville Central School District to provide a full time experienced armed police presence at their building that is located in the Town of New Windsor. While many across the country are seeking solutions to ensure safe learning environments for students and staff here in New Windsor we are proud to lead the way and show by example how it can be done. Our Police Department is the best of the best and all parents and residents should know there is no better arrangement for the safety and security of our children then the one we have implemented here today.”

Chief of Police Robert Doss stated, “Today is a great day for every parent with a child that attends Little Britain Elementary School.  For many years, the Town of New Windsor Police Department has shown its unwavering commitment to keeping all the public schools in the town safe and secure, but this agreement takes our commitment to another level.   I am pleased to announce that we will have a full-time Police Officer in Little Britain Elementary School this school year.  This Police Officer’s professionalism, training and experience will keep the school safe, while his presence will ensure that a positive learning environment constantly exists within the school.

This formal agreement that was entered into between the Town of New Windsor and the Washingtonville Central School District demonstrates the commitment from both sides to the safety and welfare of students and staff at Little Britain Elementary School.   It shows that when school districts and municipalities are serious to improving safety, amazing things can be accomplished.  Washingtonville School Superintendent Roy Reese and New Windsor Town Supervisor George Green should be commended for the roles they played in making this happen and I’ll go a step further to say that other school districts should take notice to what is being done here.”

Washingtonville Superintendent Roy Reese stated, “I want to thank Supervisor George Green, Chief of Staff Colin Schmitt and Police Chief Robert Doss for working with our district to ensure the safety of all students and staff at Little Britain Elementary School. The Town of New Windsor stepped up to the plate when asked to provide armed police at our elementary school and I have all the confidence in the world in the New Windsor Police Department’s ability to effectively accomplish their stated mission. All parents and members of our community can rest assured as we start our new academic year that we have taken all necessary steps to secure our schools for learning.”
