Town of New Windsor Press Releases

01
New Windsor, NY – The Town of New Windsor is proud to announce that it is constructing a state of the art inclusive playground at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park (Mt. Airy Park).

Construction began several weeks ago on the complex that will be the largest fully inclusive playground in the region for children of all abilities.

The playground will create a play space that children of all abilities, and regardless of any disability, can engage in physical, social, sensory, and cognitive play.

The entire project is funded through the town recreation fund which consists of developers fees and costs taxpayers nothing.

Supervisor George Green stated, “New Windsor is proud to be constructing an inclusive playground for children of all abilities to use. Our playground will be open for children and families to use very soon and we are excited that all children will have a place to play in New Windsor.”

Chief of Staff Colin Schmitt stated, “This playground will serve as the foremost inclusive playground in the region. We are excited to be able to construct a playground that children of all abilities will be able to use. Once complete we will offer playground components that include physical, social, sensory, and cognitive play. As construction is completed we are looking forward to inviting the community to enjoy this play space for years to come.”

The Town will host a ribbon cutting once construction is complete. In addition to the new playground, all existing playgrounds at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park (Mt. Airy Park) are being relocated and upgraded to include inclusive play flooring. Additional handicap/accessible parking spaces will also be added.

This is just another example of the town offering inclusive opportunities for children including our special needs bowling and soccer programs.
